I worked with a kid from Equador at a summer camp and he was way homesick

I taught him to tune in HCJB Voice of the Andes and he would come up and listen to English transmissions and ones in his language. His whole face lit up when he was listening to news from home. Interesting listening as well during Nam listening to different "perspectives" about that.
I never got licensed as a Ham but taught Morse Code back when Boy Scouts required that (yep, Im an old fart). Neat hobby. Enjoy!
